How will a sports massage help me?
Following a sports massage, you will feel an increased range of movement, a reduction in pain and improved muscle performance.
The main purpose of a sports massage is to:
Relieve muscular tension
Help mobilise soft tissues
Reduce pain
Help break down adhesions
Do I have to have an assessment before any treatment?
This all depends on the treatment you have booked. If you're unsure of the treatment you need please call a member of our team today who will be happy to help.
Massage Therapy Appointments
Massage therapy appointments (deep tissue/sports massage) do not require a separate assessment. Your therapist will ask you a few questions regarding your health and mobility as part of your treatment.
Sports Therapy Appointments
An assessment is required before any injury rehab or pain management treatments begin. This is a 45 minute appointment for our therapists to understand how your injury or pain impacts your day to day life, your current range of movement any mobility difficulties you may be experiencing.
Your therapist will develop a tailored treatment plan, give an idea of how many sessions you will require to recover from your injury or manage your pain and discomfort.
What can I expect from an assessment?
This 45 min appointment will give us a clear picture of any recent or past injury/pain and determine the best treatment package for you. We will assess your range of movement and mobility using the most up-to-date assessment tools and techniques. Our sports therapists will perform some hands on massage treatment to start you on your journey to recovery. By the end of the session you will have a greater understanding of your injury or pain related condition and leave with a clear treatment plan, home exercises and free, unlimited telephone support.
How will I feel after my sports massage?
Generally, a sports massage aims to reduce any muscle tension, muscular pain, or discomfort you are experiencing. A sports massage aims to increase your range of movement and decrease muscle stiffness and soreness. It helps reduce recovery time, aids sleep quantity and quality.
During a sports massage, toxins from within the muscles will release, this could lead you to feel a little bit sore following your 1st treatment. This feeling could last a couple of days. The feeling of soreness should reduce as you have more treatments.
What injury or pain related conditions do you have experience treating?
Our sports therapists have experience providing pain management and injury rehab for several conditions including:
Sporting Injuries
Muscular Dystrophy
Lymphedema
Back and Neck Pain
Sciatica
Limited Range of Motion
Osteoporosis
Headaches
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Respiratory Issues
Joint Replacement
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Sprains
Arthritis
Ligament injuries
Cartilage injuries
Meniscal tears
Tendonitis
Dislocated kneecap
Reoccurring pain with no diagnosis
What do I wear for a sports massage?
Typically, a massage therapist will ask you to undress to your level of comfort. You will be covered over with a sheet for the areas not being worked on. It is recommended that you wear shorts for a sports massage if you are having treatment on your legs. For back, neck, and shoulder treatments the therapist will need direct contact with the area. There is a space for you to change your clothes before and after if needed.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatments will vary depending on the conditions you present and the treatment you have chosen. An initial assessment will help determine the best line of treatment for you.
For Massage Therapy, we recommend a minimum of 3 sessions to improve your mobility.
For Sports Therapy, injury, or pain related conditions, we recommend 6 to10 sessions. This will provide you with a greater understanding of your injury or pain related condition. You will be equipped with the tools to change your movement patterns which will help reduce pain and discomfort. Sports therapy also helps to reactivate muscles to reduce the risk of further injury or pain.
Can I just have a massage?
Absolutely. Our experienced sports therapists are trained in a range of deep tissue sports massage techniques.
I don’t have an injury but I’m interested in improving my sporting performance, can a sports massage help this?
Yes, sports massage treatments help remove toxins from the muscles and replenish them with fresh blood which in turn helps the muscles recover and perform better.
How often do I need to have a sports massage?
This depends on your activity levels, injuries, or pain related conditions. Our recommendation is generally every 4-6 weeks to reduce the risk of injury.
